Comedian Bill Burr both co-stars and makes his directorial debut with Old Dads. Bobby Cannavale and Bokeem Woodbine also feature. And there’s a trailer!

Comedians going behind the camera has resulted in films as eclectic as Bo Burnham’s Eighth Grade to Jordan Peele’s hugely successful left turn into horror films with the highly successful Get Out, Us and Nope.

Bill Burr is the latest to swap the microphone for moviemaking, with his directorial debut Old Dads.

The new trailer, which you can watch below these very words, hints at the kind of comedy we’re in for – essentially, a broad portrait of middle-aged bewilderment. Anyone who’s seen Burr’s standup routines will likely be familiar with the tone (sample line: “You need to talk to somebody about your anger”). There’s also a previously-released synopsis, which reads:

“When three best friends (Bill Burr, Bobby Cannavale, Bokeem Woodbine) decide to sell their company to a millennial, they find themselves out of step and behind the times as they hilariously struggle to navigate a changing world of culture – including anything created after 1987.”

Katie Aselton, Reign Edwards, Rachael Harris, Miles Robbins and Jackie Tohn also feature.

Burr directed the film from a script he co-wrote with Ben Tishler. It’s a step further into the realm of filmmaking for Burr, who previously cro-created (and voiced) the animated sitcom F Is For Family (also for Netflix). He’s also enjoyed a long career as an actor in film and television, with his appearances including The Mandalorian, Breaking Bad, and Will Ferrell/Mark Wahlberg comedy vehicle Daddy’s Home and its 2015 sequel.

Old Dads will stream on Netflix from the 20th October.
