The Roses is a remake of War Of The Roses, starring Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch. Itās arriving this very summer.
While we often roll our eyes at Hollywoodās lack of originality and continued reliance on remakes, weāre looking forward to Fox Searchlightās upcoming remake of the 1989 dark comedy, The War Of The Roses.
It has Jay Roach at the helm, a filmmaker who knows how to craft a big studio comedy, not to mention a script from Poor Things and The Favourite writer Tony McNamara, who imbued both of those films humour that ranged from slapstick to biting to outright shocking.
Also, this is an anglicised take on the Danny DeVito film that starred Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner in a continuation of the love-hate onscreen pairing the duo perfected in 1984ās Romancing The Stone and its sequel, 1985ās The Jewel Of The Nile.
With Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch in place as the warring couple, weāre anticipating off-the-charts levels of archness and withering sarcasm, something these two actors have perfected over the years.
Thereās also a strong supporting cast in place too: Andy Samberg, Allison Janney, Ncuti Gatwa, Jamie Demetriou, Zoë Chao, Belinda Bromilow and Kate McKinnon all co-star. A good ensemble, that.
Thanks to The Hollywood Reporter, we now know when to expect the film. Itās been dated for a 29th August release in the US, meaning weāll hopefully see it arrive here in the UK on the same day. Should that prove to be the case, you might be able to make a bizarre double-bill of comedy action with Macon Blairās Toxic Avenger, currently slated for release in the US on the same day. Itās like Barbie and Oppenheimer all over again.
Weāll leave you with a synopsis for the film, but when the trailer does arrive, it will be sent your way. Or put on a website. Something like that.
