Peter Rabbit 2 tops the UK box office on day one

Peter Rabbit 2, Nomadland and Godzilla Vs Kong are the top three films on the first day of UK indoor cinemas reopening.

Indoor cinemas around most of the UK are now open for the first time in six months, and last Monday saw a sizeable list of films made available. Now, the first box office chart in as many months has also come to light via ComScore, and it reveals that Peter Rabbit 2 was the big winner on day one of cinema’s new dawn.

It’s a pretty good film too in fairness, but it was by distance the most popular choice of the day. The rest of the top five features Nomadland, Godzilla Vs Kong, Spiral: From The Book Of Saw and The Unholy. Modest returns so far too, but a proper test of just how keen we all are to get back inside a cinema will come at the weekend.

And then all eyes are on the first big ‘blockbuster’ release not aimed at the family market, A Quiet Place Part II, which arrives the weekend after next.

For now, Peter Rabbit 2 has its first £226,000 in the bank. The original went on to be a very big hit in the UK. If the sequel can get anywhere near its success, then it’d be considered quite the achievement in whatever this new normal now is.
