Proving the recent rumours true, the Quake II remaster is available now for PC and consoles.
Just as the soothsayer billbil-kun prophesied last week, a Quake II remaster is indeed a thing. In fact, itās available to download now ā on the very date (11 August) listed in Dealabs Magazineās original report.
Announced at QuakeCon 2023 (thanks, Eurogamer), the remastered Quake II is available now for PC and consoles, and comes with a number of improvements, including revised visuals, character models and enemy AI. Thereās also plenty of multiplayer options, including local split-screen co-op for four players on console and eight players on PC, which sounds like a marvellous way to play it.
Much like the remastered version of the original Quake, also handled by Nightdive Studios, the new Quake II also comes with The Reckoning and Ground Zero expansions, as well as a new add-on designed by Machine Games, called Call of the Machine. Itās an obvious echo of Dimension of the Machine, the expansion designed for the Quake 1 remaster, also by Machine Games. The studio clearly likes making expansions with the word āMachineā in the title.
The rejigged Quake is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Switch.
