Writer and producer Roberto Orci, whose credits include Star Trek, Fringe and Transformers, has died at the age of just 51.
Some awful news that by the sounds of it had been coming for a little while. Writer and producer Roberto Orci has died at the age of 51. He had apparently been suffering from kidney disease. He passed away at his home in Los Angeles earlier this week.
Roberto Orci’s work has been across a number of Hollywood’s biggest franchises over the last decade or two. He co-wrote and co-produced JJ Abrams’ Star Trek big screen reboot, and also worked on the first two Transformers films for Michael Bay.
You’ll also find his fingerprints on projects such as the television shows Fringe and Sleepy Hollow, as well as feature films such as Mission: Impossible III, Eagle Eye, the Now You See Me movies and more.
At one stage he was set to direct the Star Trek film that became Star Trek Beyond too, before the chair on that particular project went to Justin Lin.
It sounds as though Roberto Orci’s life was not without demons (which he’d talked about fairly openly), and there’s plenty of information out there detailing those.
Orci’s brother, JR Orci, said in a statement that Roberto “was a visionary storyteller with a boundless heart and a beautiful soul. But beyond his creative talents, he was a compassionate friend who would put his life on hold to help a stranger and find room in his home for the most overlooked pup at the shelter.”
He is survived by his parents, his stepmother, his brother and his sisters. Our thoughts are very much with them at what must be a terrible time for them. 51 is absolutely no age whatsoever.
