Ron Howard’s Eden remains unreleased, but he’s now got a couple more films on the way forward. More here.

As we mentioned just the other day when it emerged that Ron Howard had received the backing of Amazon MGM to develop his planned firefighter drama starring Glen Powell, the veteran director might have got another break. Following the way that Amazon handled the release of his cave rescue drama Thirteen Lives and Howard’s struggles to find a distributor for the upcoming Eden, the guy surely was hoping for a smoother 2025.

Well, according to Puck News it really does seem like things are very much in motion for Howard. Not only does he now have backing for that firefighter film – not a sequel to Backdraft, we’re told – but the filmmaker also has another project in the works which might even release first.

According to the outlet, Howard’s next film will be Alone At Dawn, an adaptation of the non-fiction book by Dan Schilling and Lori Longfritz.

The story follows John Chapman, ‘an Air Force combat controller who gave his life during the War in Afghanistan while saving 23 fellow soldiers — a sacrifice that earned him a posthumous Medal of Honour’.

The 2013 film Lone Survivor starring Mark Wahlberg has been mentioned as a point of comparison, although whether this project really is next on Howard’s slate we simply don’t know. No casting or studio involvement is mentioned.

Howard has never really tackled a modern war film before, although he was originally attached to Last Man Home a couple of decades ago which was set in the Gulf War and followed a soldier on a covert mission to find his AWOL brother. Rawson Marshall Thurber would eventually take writing and directing duties on that project, however.

When we do learn more about Last Man Home, we’ll let you know.
