Save The Cinema: filming begins on upcoming movie

Sky Cinema greenlights Save The Cinema, starring Samantha Morton and Tom Felton – more details right this way.

One of a raft of films announced by Sky as part of its sizeable commitment to brand new movies this week, filming has now begun on the British feature Save The Cinema.

It’s a story set in the 1990s where Samantha Morton plays Liz Evans, a woman from the town of Carmarthen in Wales. She starts a campaign to stop her local cinema, The Lyric, from being bulldozed and turned into shops. Said plan evolves to the point where she and he fellow campaigners barricade themselves into the cinema too.

Sara Sugarman is directing this one, working from a screenplay by Piers Ashworth. And it’s boasting an impressive cast led by Samantha Morton and Tom Felton. Also on board are Jonathan Pryce, Adeel Akhtar, Erin Richard, Susan Wokoma, Colm Meaney, Rhod Gilbert and Keith Allen.

The film will be debuting on Sky Cinema and in theory in cinemas at the same time later in the year. As we hear more on it, we’ll let you know. For now, filming has begun in Wales on the feature.
