Ron Perlman also stars in ‘action comedy thriller’ The Retirement Plan that’s heading our way next month.
To say that we’re looking forward to the next phase of Nicolas Cage’s career (which seems to consist of him hanging out on beaches and then going bananas) is an understatement. Next month will see the dawn of this new era with the release of The Retirement Plan and you can see the red band trailer for the film below.
Here’s the synopsis:
‘Cage is Matt, the estranged father of Ashley (Ashley Greene) and her young daughter Sarah (Thalia Campbell), who get entangled in a criminal gang that threatens their lives. Matt, coming to their rescue, is chased down by gang leader Donnie, played by Jackie Earle Haley, and his lieutenant Bobo (Ron Perlman). To save his family, Matt has to kill a slew of bad guys in a dangerous game of cat and mouse with the criminal gang in hot pursuit.’
This is just the opening gambit of Cage’s next audacious career step. The actor is well-known for zigging when everybody expects him to zag and following a few high-profile appearances in studio films lately, he seems to be zigging once more, choosing instead to hang out at the beach and make small, violent indie films. One of Cage’s next projects, The Surfer was being sold at Cannes in May and will also see him play a violent and troubled beach bum who loses it when some surfer bullies who oust him from his favourite break.
The Retirement Plan and The Surfer sounds like a perfect future Cage double-bill to us but in the meantime, you can catch the trailer for the former below.
