Bill Lawrence and Jason Segel’s Shrinking returns for season 2 on Apple TV in October, and here are the details.
According to Deadline, Apple has confirmed that the Shrinking season 2 will begin on the 15th October.
Bill Lawrence is probably best known for creating Scrubs, the wonderful hospital sitcom which ran for nine seasons from 2002 to 2009. It showcased Lawrence’s skill in weaving incredible pathos through a show crammed with jokes – My Lunch from season 5 may just be one of the best examples of this in any sitcom – and he has only gone from strength to strengh.
After six seasons of Cougar Town starring Courtney Cox, he co-created Ted Lasso with Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt, which soon became a global phenomenon due to its mix of hope, kindness and uncynical humour.
That brings us to Shrinking, which he co-created with Jason Segel and Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein.
Segal stars as therapist Jimmy, who is struggling following the loss of his wife. He begins to take liberties with his work, telling patients exactly what he thinks. Harrison Ford, showing a brilliant flair for deadpan comic delivery, plays his hardnosed boss, Jessica Williams is his colleague and Christa Miller is his neighbour.
Lawrence has another show starting on Apple TV this month. Bad Monkey stars Vince Vaughn as police detective Andrew Yancy.
The synopsis for Shrinking season 2 reads as follows:
Based on Carl Hiaasen’s NY Times bestselling novel and enduring cult favorite, Bad Monkey tells the story of Andrew Yancy (Vince Vaughn), who has been bounced from the Miami Police Department and is now a health inspector in the Keys. But after stumbling upon a case that begins with a human arm fished up by tourists, he realizes if he can prove murder, he’ll be back in. He just needs to get past a trove of Floridian oddballs and one bad monkey.
Vaughn stars alongside L. Scott Caldwell, Rob Delaney, Meredith Hagner, Natalie Martinez, Alex Moffat, Michelle Monaghan, Ronald Peet and Jodie Turner-Smith, with special guest star John Ortiz.
Bad Monkey will stream in Apple TV from the 12th August.
