Sigourney Weaver has closed the door on playing Ripley in the Alien franchise ever again.

We wrote about the tumultuous journey of Alien 5 here. That was a film that Neill Blomkamp was set to write and direct, and Sigourney Weaver was on board. Quite while the studio didn’t move forward is a mystery, but in a recent interview with Total Film, she firmly shut the door on the idea of ever playing Ripley again.

Weaver said that “there are all kinds of younger actors taking this kind of role. And there was an Alien [film] that I really wanted to do with Neill Blomkamp and we didn’t get to do that, but, you know, that ship has sailed. I’m very happy doing what I’m doing. I put in my time in space!”.

Weaver first played Ripley 44years ago in Alien, reprising the role in Aliens (1986), Alien 3 (1992) and Alien Resurrection (1997).

A new take on Alien is currently in production, spearheaded by Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez, from a screenplay he co-wrote with regular collaborator Rodo Sayagues. It will skip cinemas and is instead heading to streaming service Hulu.

Another Alien prequel, or a sequel to Alien: Covenent, was in the works at one point, but it seems very unlikely we will ever see it.
