Skull Island: Rise of Kong is a third-person action adventure in which King Kong punches dinosaurs and giant crabs.

Weā€™ll soon be able to take on the role of everyoneā€™s favourite stop-motion animated ape, King Kong, thanks to the upcoming Skull Island: Rise of Kong. Itā€™s a third-person action adventure that will see the angry ape clobber dinosaurs and other beasties in his natural habitat (Skull Island).

According to its synopsis, the game will see Kong embark on a Death Wish style revenge mission:

Embark on a third-person action adventure to avenge the death of your parents at the hands of the ultimate alpha predator: Gaw. Conquer waves of primal beasts and defeat your archenemy’s minions to become the rightful king of Skull Island. Cross the mysterious island and discover the history and secrets it hides as you come across swamps, waterfalls, jungles, and caves full of skullites that give power to the flora and fauna of the island.

Skull Island: Rise of Kong will be available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Switch. Development is being handled by GameMill Entertainment, an American developer known for such tie-in games as Nickelodeon Kart Racers, Cobra Kai and Olafā€™s Quest, a spin-off based on Disneyā€™s Frozen.

It sounds as though thereā€™ll be more emphasis on action than adventuring, with Skull Island's press release talking about ā€œdevastating combosā€ and ā€œbrutal finishing attacksā€, though thereā€™ll also be a bit of exploring. Doing so will reward you with collectibles and bits of Kong-related lore. Screenshots show the mighty Kong smacking a giant crab with a punch; another shows Kong surrounded by falling rocks; still another shows a trio of multi-coloured dinosaurs with worryingly large talons.

Thereā€™s no release date as yet, though Skull Island: Rise of Kong is said to be set for launch ā€œlater this yearā€. Thereā€™s also an announcement trailer, which we will post below without further comment.
