Sadie Sink is the new addition to the upcoming Spider-Man 4 from Marvel, with hints of a tie-in to future X-Men projects.
News tidbits for Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man 4 haven’t always been that comforting for fans of the webslinger’s ongoing adventures. Despite the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s up and down fortunes over the last few years, the Spider-Man films remain as a strong trilogy of movies with a unique identity and a decent level of quality control.
However, the departure of the series’ director Jon Watts was one piece of news that suggests that changes to the series were on the horizon. Then even more worryingly, there were lots of reports about Marvel and Sony disagreeing about the direction of the fourth film. While that’s said to be sorted now, that is undoubtedly a lot of creative turbulence for the next film in the series to deal with and when projects such as these lack a strong and unified creative vision, it can often spell disappointment.
Some good news on this front then: Sadie Sink has officially joined Spider-Man 4 and if nothing else, that means the film has a wonderfully-talented young star on its roster.
Sink made her name on Netflix’s Stranger Things, holding her own in an ensemble cast full of young talent. However, the young actor really showed her potential in Darren Aranofsky’s The Whale where Sink would match an excellent performance by Brendan Fraser, making for a memorable onscreen father-daughter relationship that served as the film’s emotional heartbeat and earned the young star plenty of plaudits.
We’d imagine Sink has been pretty busy of late working on the final series of Stranger Things and if the rumours are to be believed, her role in Spider-Man 4 could serve as the gateway to plenty more MCU appearances. Speculation is rife that Sink will play Jean Grey in the film, a key member of the X-Men, Marvel’s team of mutants that are set to play a major role in the next phase of the company’s ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Given the character’s central role within the group, should Sink’s casting as Jean Grey prove to be true, this will tie her into the Marvel machine for years to come. We just hope her deal allows her to pursue a ‘one for me, one for them’ approach as we’d hate to miss out on the young actor collaborating with more auteur filmmakers like Aranofsky because she has to pop up in whichever MCU film needs a X-Men appearance to bolster its trailer views.
We’ll bring you more on Spider-Man 4 as we hear it.
