Denis Villeneuve’s James Bond movie has found its writer in Peaky Blinders’ Steven Knight. Some more details below.

UPDATE: Steven Knight went on BBC radio to chat about the news of his Bond writing duties.

“It has always been on my bucket list, and it’s fantastic to be invited to do it. I can’t wait to get started,” Knight told BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast.

Knight also explained he had been offered the job a while ago, but the news were only made public last night. Like director Denis Villeneuve, Knight is a big Bond fan and this is clearly a dream job for both men.

“I’m hoping that, being a Bond fan for so many years, it will be imbued into me and I will be able to produce something that’s the same but different, and better, stronger and bolder,” Knight promises.

We’re certainly up for that.

The original story:

After what seemed like forever without any news, we finally have confirmation that a new James Bond movie is on the way. Denis Villeneuve was confirmed to be directing the next 007 adventure in June and now, the project has found its writer.

Steven Knight, the man behind Peaky Blinders and A Thousand Blows, is penning the script for the new, still untitled, James Bond film, as Variety reports. Amazon MGM is looking to get the movie in cinemas in 2028, so things will start moving pretty fast.

Amazon MGM took over the franchise earlier this year from Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson after acquiring MGM in 2021. The last Bond film, No Time To Die, premiered in that same year and marked the end of the Daniel Craig era in style.

The next major news is presumably who will play the titular spy. After Craig portrayed a more gruff, violent Bond, will the studio look for someone younger? One of the name’s being thrown around is Kingsman’s Taron Egerton, but the actor himself thinks he’s not suitable for the role. Egerton explained to Collider that despite loving the franchise, he’s “too messy” for it.

Other names being thrown around are Harris Dickinson, Tom Holland, Jacob Elordi and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Idris Elba has been a fan favourite for the role for years, but Elba has always insisted he’s not interested in the part.

We’ll have to wait and see what Knight and Villeneuve cook up for our favourite British spy, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated on all things Bond. James Bon.

We’ll see ourselves out.
