Following the Russian mob and rogue special ops  groups, Denzel Washington’s retired assassin is going after one of the most notorious crime syndicates of all in the upcoming third film.

It’s been a couple of years since Denzel Washington, whilst on the press rounds for 2021’s The Tragedy Of Macbeth, revealed that another film in The Equalizer series was in the works. Antoine Fuqua is back to direct and the film is set to release in September of this year.

We also know that Dakota Fanning will be joining Washington in the film, resuming an on-screen partnership that began almost two decades ago when they both featured in Tony Scott’s Man On Fire. With the first film in the series still standing as one of the better action films of the 21st century, it’s been a long wait for further details but the official synopsis for the film has been released.

You can check that below:

Since giving up his life as a government assassin, Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) has struggled to reconcile the horrific things he’s done in the past and finds a strange solace in serving justice on behalf of the oppressed. Finding himself surprisingly at home in Southern Italy, he discovers his new friends are under the control of local crime bosses. As events turn deadly, McCall knows what he has to do: become his friends’ protector by taking on the mafia.

Finding out which foes Washington’s ex-marine, Robert McCall, would be dishing out his own unique brand of justice to was high on our interest list for this film after Washington’s lethal filling machine took down the Russian mob in the first film. Whilst in the second, things got more personal as a group of McCall’s former squad mates went rogue. The mafia though? Sounds like it could be lots of fun.

The film is set to release in September and we’ll bring you more on The Equalizer 3 as we hear it.
