David Corenswet’s caped superhero makes its debut this summer and Warner Bros. has just released the first, proper Superman trailer. Take a look below.

We’ve had little teases of James Gunn’s Superman, but no full trailer, at least until now. Warner Bros. has just released the first full trailer for the highly anticipated superhero movie and you can watch it right below.

The trailer is a bit on the long side at 3 minutes, but it doesn’t offer a whole lot of plot detail, does it? Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor shows up and looks very evil as do various other superheroes such as Green Lantern, Mister Terrific and Hawkgirl. Oh, and there’s also Krypto, Superman’s dog. We’re very excited to see Krypto on a very big screen.

We do appreciate how the trailer draws attention to doing difficult interviews as Lois Lane grills Superman, also known as Clark Kent to his loved ones, about a recent conflict. Superman claims he stopped a war and Lois argues it didn’t go that well as he illegally entered a country.

The trailer doesn’t give us a lot of Clark Kent in the trailer. It seems that Lois already knows Clark is Superman and the trailer also makes a point of showing how controversial the hero is in this world.

This is normally where we’d insert the official synopsis provided by the studio, but there doesn’t seem to be one available. The film’s plot is being kept very tightly under wraps still but Warner Bros. does promise us “a singular blend of epic action, humor and heart, delivering a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind. ”

We’ll take what we can get! James Gunn is not only getting his DC Universe off to a proper start, but trying a little something different. For the past decade, the director’s work has largely consisted of portraying large groups of lovable reprobates on screen, but Superman is the biggest, most earnest good guy there is. Hopefully Gunn has found a way to spice things up and deliver something unexpected.

Superman has a very stacked, impressive cast as Corenswet is joined by the already mentioned Nicholas Hoult and Rachel Brosnahan, as well as Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced – who is currently stealing all the scenes in The Last Of Us currently – and Wendell Pierce.

Superman is heading into cinemas in July, going almost head to head with Marvel’s July offering, The Fantastic Four: First Steps. For fans of comic book blockbusters, it could be one heck of a month at the cinema.

Superman is in cinemas 11th July.
