Cliffhanger 2 is finally, after 30 years, going to press ahead, and Sylvester Stallone is set to return for the new film.

Sylvester Stallone is a busy man. Recently finding success on the small screen leading Taylor Sheridan’s Tulsa King for Paramount+, he has a role in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3, and the fourth Expendables film is due out in a couple of months. In addition to all that, Stallone also  has several films on his slate, including an adaptation of the 1999 novel Hunter, dystopian drama Little America and spy thriller Never Too Old To Die.

Now, he’s returning to one of his most commercially successful films. 1993’s Cliffhanger took over $255 million on a $70 million budget, and marked a real commercial comeback for Stallone.

It saw Stallone co-write the script and play mountain climber Gabe, who becomes embroiled in a heist by John Lithgow’s nefarious villain Eric Qualan. Director Renny Harlin makes full use of the stunning Rocky Mountains with several terrific set pieces. For a long time there was chat of a sequel, but it eventually fizzled out. Yet now the idea is back.

Stallone will reprise his role in the sequel, which will be helmed by Angel Has Fallen director Ric Roman Waugh, working from a screenplay by Mark Bianculli.

No plot details have been divulged, other than the fact that the action will now take place in the Italian Alps.

We’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
