You will soon be able to compete in a series of ridiculous tasks, as Taskmaster becomes a live experience.

There are few programmes on television as joyous as Taskmaster. Created by ‘Little’ Alex Horne, the startlingly simple premise see comedians and actors compete in silly challenges for the amusement of the Taskmaster, an always delightful Greg Davies.

The show was a sleeper hit, steadily building a dedicated, almost fanatical audience on Dave before switching to primetime on Channel 4. There have been many classic moments, such as Joe Wilkinson’s potato problem, Josh Widdecombe’s helpful admin (which nobody else had to do) and Liza Tarbuck making Alex sit on a cake.

The show then became popular worldwide, with multiple countries taking on the format. While the American version, hosted by Reggie Watts, didn’t fare so well, it was the New Zealand edition which really took off. Musical comic Paul Williams is a wonderful foil, making the Taskmaster’s assistant role his own, overseen by Jeremy Wells.

And it doesn’t stop there. Not only can you buy Taskmaster clothing, books, a board game via the official store, a few weeks ago, it was announced that the show was being turned into a VR game by indie developer Scallywag Arcade, in 2024 for Meta Quest 2 and 3. You can add it to your wishlist on Steam now.

Now, members of the public will be able to participate in all manner of silliness, as the show is set to become a live experience akin to an escape room.

According to Chortle, producers have said that the project will only happen if there is enough support from fans, which is why they are asking people who would be interested in taking part to sign up to their mailing list, after which a decision will be made.
