It looks like the big screen take on Cats will be finished just a week or two before its cinema release.
It sounds like there’s a race to the finish line going on with the big screen adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical, Cats. The film – of which all we’ve really seen is an already-infamous trailer released earlier this year – has a heavy post-production CG load to contend with. And that’s taking the film into December as director Tom Hooper looks to lock down his final cut.
IndieWire is now reporting that the Christmas release isn’t expected to be completed and ready for screening until the middle of December, potentially just days away from its general release. That, in turn, is likely to leave it past the deadline for the first tranche of major awards, including the Golden Globes. There’s likely to be a knock-on effect to its Oscar momentum too.
As much as the film is being sniffed at, there’s an original song in it for a start that would likely be a shoo-in for an Oscar nomination at least.
As fresh trailer for the movie is expected shortly at least, and that should keep the kitty conversation going. Behind the scenes, though, it sounds like the race to completion is proving quite a challenge.
More as we hear it.
