Noel Fielding’s comedy series The Completely Made Up Adventures of Dick Turpin has been renewed for a second series at Apple TV+, here are the details.
Noel Fielding, along with comedy partner Julian Barratt, blasted onto the UK comedy scene with double act The Mighty Boosh, which found success at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 1998. After that, it went to TV, with three series of what might be the most surreal, esoteric comedy ever broadcast on British television. All episodes were directed by Paul King, who went on to achieve national treasure status alongside Simon Farnaby for co-writing and directing the Paddington films and the recently released Wonka.
Fielding has had a steady career in British sitcoms ever since, appearing in the likes of Snuff Box, The IT Crowd and headlining his own series Noel Fielding’s Luxury Comedy, last year he created and lead the cast of Apple TV+ comedy The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin.
The synopsis reads as follows:
Dick Turpin (Noel Fielding) sets out on a journey of wildly absurd escapades when he’s made the reluctant leader of a band of outlaws — and tasked with outwitting corrupt lawman and self-appointed thief-taker Jonathan Wilde (Hugh Bonneville). In this irreverent retelling set in the 18th century, Turpin is the most famous but least likely of highway robbers, whose success is defined mostly by his charm, showmanship and great hair. Together with his gang of lovable rogues, Turpin rides the highs and lows of his new endeavours, including a brush with celebrity, all whilst trying to escape the clutches of the thief-taker.
The cast also included Ellie White, Marc Wootton, Duayne Boachie, Tamsin Greig, Asim Chaudhry, Dolly Wells, Joe Wilkinson, Mark Heap, Samuel Leakey and Kiri Flaherty. Fielding also wrote the series, alongside Richard Naylor and Jon Brittain.
According to Deadline, Apple has renewed the show for a second series, which will feature “a host of great British comedy talent”.
The first series of The Completely Made Up Adventures of Dick Turpin is available to stream on Apple TV+.
