Nia Vardalos steps into the director’s chair for My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3, and here’s the trailer for the new film.
The original My Big Fat Greek Wedding was at one point the biggest independent film of all time at the US box office. Released in 2002, and written by and starring Nia Vardalos, the movie was a sleeper hit sensation. It was followed by a television series, My Big Fat Greek Life, in 2003, though it would take over a decade for the sequel, cunningly titled My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, to arrive on the big screen in 2016.
The franchise becomes a trilogy with the release of My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3. The official synopsis reads as follows:
Our favourite Big Fat Greek Family is back – again. From writer and director Nia Vardalos, the worldwide phenomenon My Big Fat Greek Wedding is coming back to theaters with a brand-new adventure. Join the Portokalos family as they travel to a family reunion in Greece for a heartwarming and hilarious trip full of love, twists and turns. Opa!.
All of the cast are reprising their roles, including Nia Vardalos, John Corbett, Elena Kampouris, Lainie Kazan, Andrea Martin, Louis Mandylor, Gia Carides, Gerry Mendicino, Joey Fatone, Stavroula Logothettis, and Elias Kacavas as Aristotle.
After writing and starring in the first two films, it marks Vardalos’ second time in the director’s chair after 2009’s I Hate Valentine’s Day (in which she also starred opposite Corbett), as well as once again penning the screenplay. The film will be dedicated to actor Michael Constantine, who plays Vardalos’ character’s father Gus in the first two films, who sadly passed away in 2021 at the age of 94.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 will be released on the 8th September.
