Will Smith is back in Emancipation, a film that’s finally getting a release this year from Apple: here’s the trailer.

It’s been a turbulent year for Will Smith, to say the least. After ‘that’ incident, all his projects were either suspended or, in the case of Bright 2, outright cancelled.

Emancipation, though, always had a better chance than most of seeing the light of day, mainly because it was already so near completion (it may also have had something to do with the fact that Apple paid a whopping $120 million for it too). Now, it becomes the first Will Smith-headlined film to release following matters earlier this year.

The synopsis reads as follows:

A runaway slave forges through the swamps of Louisiana on a tortuous journey to escape plantation owners that nearly killed him.

Smith stars as Peter, alongside Ben Foster, Charmaine Bingwa, Steven Ogg, Mustafa Shakir, Timothy Hutton, Gilbert Owuor, Grant Harvey, Ronnie Gene Blevins, Jabbar Lewis and Michael Luwoye.

Antoine Fuqua directs from a screenplay by William N. Collage.

Emancipation will be released on Apple TV+ on 9th December. Watch the trailer below…
