Boss Team Games is developing two videogames based on John Carpenter’s horror classic, Halloween. More details on those below.
It’s a pretty well-known fact that John Carpenter loves videogames. The horror director loves to chat about what he’s currently playing and he’s even been involved in the making of a game or two.
IGN reports that not one, but two video games based on Carpenter’s iconic 1978 horror film are now in the works. One of these is being developed with Unreal Engine 5 and will have input from Carpenter himself.
āAs a huge gamer myself, I’m thrilled to help bring Michael Myers to life again in this game, and my hope is to scare you silly,ā Carpenter said of the games being developed.
IGN also reports that the games will allow players to ārelive moments from the film and play as classic characters from one of the most iconic and important horror films of all time.ā
Boss Team Games is behind the projects, and it’s not the first time itās worked on a horror experience based on existing IP; the company was also behind 2022’s Evil Dead: The Game.
“Everyone at Boss Team Games are huge fans of horror and Halloween obviously holds a special place in the hearts of all horror fans,” said Boss Team Games CEO Steve Harris. “Getting to work with iconic characters like Michael Myers and build on John Carpenter’s original vision is literally a dream come true. Everyone at Boss Team is thrilled and honored to be working with Malek Akkad and John Carpenter to deliver a one-of-a-kind experience that fans of the movie and video games will love.”
This won’t be the first time the Shape has appeared in a videogame. Halloween first appeared on the Atari 2600 in 1983 and saw players take on the role of a doomed babysitter as they tried to find safety from Michael Myers. The character also appears along many other horror icons in Dead By Daylight, which is due to receive a film adaptation.
