Warner Bros has added a new Under Siege film to its menu ā€“ but as of yet, Steven Seagal is not amongst its ingredients. Oh, hello. There was a moment in Hollywood where it looked as though Steven Seagal was going to be the action star of the 1990s, not least when Under Siege overperformed at the box office. It in turn gave him what’d turn out to be the biggest box office hit of his career, not that he knew that at the time. Seagal returned for the most enjoyable sequel Dark Territory a few years later, and talk has gone up and down since about a possible Under Siege 3. But, well, let’s just say that Seagal’s career and life has taken a bit of a turn in recent times. Nonetheless, Warner Bros clearly sees something in the adventures of an ass-kicking action hero who can also rustle up a good meal (Seagal’s character, of course, being a chef). As such, it’s ordered a reboot. Timo Tjahjanto – who is attached too to an English language remake of the superb Train To Busan ā€“ has signed up to direct the new film, that’s being penned by Umair Aleem. The pair of them pitched the project to the studio, that’s duly snapped it up with its HBO Max streaming service in mind. It is unlikely that Under Siege Again – or whatever it ends up being called – will see the inside of a cinema. Casting news is light at the moment, but it’ll be genuinely fascinating to see if they can lure Seagal back to play Casey Ryback once again. And just what version of Steven Seagal turns up.
