Vampire Survivors, the BAFTA-winning bullet hell hit, is getting a new chunk of DLC, Tides of the Foscari, on 13 April.
Furiously addictive bullet hell roguelite Vampire Survivors is about to get a new slice of downloadable content. Called Tides of the Foscari, it includes a new stage, weapons, characters, and lots more besides.
A distinctly tongue-in-cheek affair, Tides of the Foscariās story is set in and around Foscari Academy, āa school where the elite of the world train their children for careers as powerful wizards, indefatigable generals, and expert spies.ā
Exactly what fantasy series Vampire Survivorsā creators might be parodying here, we canāt begin to imagine.
The DLC was first shown off at Londonās WASD indie games expo last week, and coincides with what must be a pretty extraordinary time for its developer, Studio poncle. Vampire Survivors walked away with a Best Game award at last weekās BAFTA Game Awards, beating such big-budget titles as Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarök. The game also won a gong for best Game Design.

Initially created by studio founder Luca Galante as a āpandemic pastimeā during lockdown, Vampire Survivors has gone on to become a indie sensation, with positive reviews, hundreds of thousands of players, and frequent inclusions on outletsā āgame of the yearā lists. That a retro-looking, 2D rogue-lite-shooter-fantasy hybrid can also get BAFTA recognition is proof that indie games with good ideas really can compete with the triple-A side of the industry. (And, on a more selfish note, weāre hoping that Vampire Survivors means 2D, bullet-hell-style action games become at least a bit more mainstream again as a result.)
Tides of the Foscari launches on 13 April for just £1.59. You can find a full list of contents ā including a cool-sounding weapon called the Prismatic Missile ā over on its Steam page.
