Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s football documentary series is coming back for another season. Here’s more on Welcome To Wrexham season 5.
We’re only a few episodes into the new season of Welcome To Wrexham, the documentary series following Wrexham AFC through their trials and tribulations. The hook for those not interested in Welsh football teams? The team is owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
We’ve said this before, but Welcome To Wrexham is one of the biggest feel-good shows on telly right now, so it’s nice to be able to report that the series has been renewed for season 5 by FX as reported by Deadline. The series currently airs new episodes every Friday on Disney+ in the UK.
Reynolds and McElhenney bought the club in 2021 and the series, which started in 2022, has followed the team as they earned three consecutive promotions. The Red Dragons are currently aiming for a promotion into the Premier League, the highest league of British football.
The renewal doesn’t come as a major surprise. The series has been hugely popular and the football club’s journey has been full of dramatic ups and downs, which makes for good storytelling.
Reynolds and McElhenney have retained a steady presence in the series despite the former’s busy shooting schedule. Welcome To Wrexham has made the small town of Wrexham and its townsfolk, who often appear in the series, into celebrities and the club has attracted a lot of publicity and even investors.
Last week’s episode (22nd May) detailed how the Allyn family had bought a 5% stake in the club, bringing in some much needed cash for the club to keep building.
The final episode of Welcome To Wrexham is due to air on 12th June. There’s no official word on when season 5 will premiere but it’s likely to be around May 2026, but we’ll keep you updated on that.
