Poor Things director Yorgos Lanthimos confirms that Kinds Of Kindness is an anthology tale – while revealing what that meant for the film’s production.

Yorgos Lanthimos is a busy man at the moment. Poor Things is set to hit general release here in the UK in the next couple of weeks, and is already expected to have an intense awards season. Meanwhile, the filmmaker is also hard at work on the edit of his next movie, Kinds Of Kindness.

The project was formerly titled And, and Lanthimos has confirmed the rumours that the film is indeed an anthology tale. While that’s an exciting prospect, the filmmaker has revealed that getting it shot was quite the achievement as well.

Speaking to The Guardian, Lanthimos confirms that “it’s all shot and we have started editing”.

He added that “it’s a contemporary film, set in the US – three different stories, with four or five actors who play one part in each story, so they all play three different parts. It was almost like making three films, really.”

Given that Lanthimos shot the film while Poor Things was still in the late stages of post production, it really must have felt like a long stretch. Here’s hoping he’s taken a break before heading into the editing bay, especially if the three tales intertwine, as that could be a tricky thing to cut together.

Emma Stone, Margaret Qualley, Willem Dafoe, Joe Alwyn, Jesse Plemons, Hong Chau, and Hunter Schafer all star in the film which has no release date as of yet.

We’re excited by the prospect of Lanthimos focusing on a contemporary setting after two period pieces (Poor Things, 2018’s The Favourite) not to mention bringing his unique creative talents to the anthology format.

In the meantime, you can see Poor Things when it hits UK cinemas on the 12th of January. It’ll be going head to head at the UK box office with Jason Statham in The Beekeeper. One of those films has better Oscar prospects than the other, but we’ll let you work out what’s what there…
