Robert De Niro stars in the Netflix political thriller series Zero Day, and thatā€™s going to debut this year. Hereā€™s the trailer.

Over his extraordinary career, Robert De Niro has only appeared sporadically on the small screen. Perhaps most memorably, he appeared in a cameo at the end of series two of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchantā€™s Extras. He also played politician Bernie Madoff in the HBO television film The Wizard Of Lies, appeared on Sesame Street and thus far has hosted Saturday Night Live three times.

He now leads Netlix thriller series Zero Day.

The synopsis reads as follows:

Netflixā€™s Zero Day is a limited thriller series starring Robert De Niro as respected former U.S. President George Mullen, who, as head of the Zero Day Commission, is charged with finding the perpetrators of a devastating cyber attack that has caused chaos around the country and many fatalities. As disinformation runs rampant and the personal ambition of power brokers in technology, Wall Street, and government collide, Mullen’s unwavering search for the truth forces him to confront his own dark secrets while risking all he holds dear.

The star studded ensemble cast also includes Angela Bassett as the current President, Lizzy Caplan, Jesse Plemons, Joan Allen, Connie Britton, Matthew Modine, Dan Stevens, Bill Camp, Gaby Hoffmann and Clark Gregg.

Zero Day was created and written by showrunners Eric Newman and Noah Oppenheim, with episodes also written by Michael S. Schmid and Roberto Patino. The show was directed by Lesli Linka Glatter.

De Niro will next be seen on the big screen starring opposite himself, playing rival gangsters in The Alto Knights, which reunites him with director Barry Levinson and writer Nicholas Pileggi. It will be released in UK cinemas on the 21st March.

Zero Day will stream on Netflix from the 20th February.
