Paramount has released the first trailer for upcoming animated movie Transformers One. It sent it into space, too.

Well, here’s a first. The trailer for Transformers One has arrived, although quite where it has arrived, nobody really knows. That’s because the livestream for the film’s promo was beamed into space. While it certainly makes for a cool-sounding marketing blitz, we’re hoping that it doesn’t spark a Galaxy Quest-style scenario where aliens turn up on Earth’s doorstep, hoping to find a bunch of animated robots to join their Star War.

Compared to transforming robots, discovering billions of squishy humans instead might be a crushing disappointment and would inexorably lead to our enslavement at the hands of our new galactic overlords.

We’re sure it won’t come to that and even if it does, at least we have a shiny trailer to enjoy ahead of the launch of Transformers One, the first ever fully CG-animated feature-length film featuring the robots in disguise. The film ‘explores the untold origin story of Optimus Prime and Megatron, better known as sworn enemies, but once were friends bonded like brothers who changed the fate of Cybertron forever.’

Chris Hemsworth and Brian Tyree Henry voice Optimus Prime and Megatron, whilst the film also features turns from Scarlett Johansson as Elita, Keegan-Michael Key as Bumblebee, Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime and Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion.

The film is directed by Josh Cooley and releases in September.

It’s a good time to be a Transformers fan given that along with the impending release of this film, there’s also a crossover movie with GI Joe on the way. We’ve also seen plans for 40th anniversary screenings of the classic 1980s show headed to cinemas next month, complete with extra bonus bits too, so look out for that one.

Should we hear more on Transformers One, or an invasion of Earth, you can be sure we’ll let you know right here.
