Salt ahoy! A new film from Quentin Tarantino has appeared in Production Weekly, suggesting it would begin shooting in December this year.

An “Untitled Quentin Tarantino Project” has appeared in the latest issue of industry-tracking site Production Weekly, with the listing suggesting the director is scheduled to start shooting something in Los Angeles in December 2025.

The listing credits Tarantino as writer-director, with David Heyman, Shannon McIntosh and Stacey Sher producing. Tarantino previously worked with Heyday Films on 2019’s Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood.

The only name locked into the cast list is Brad Pitt (Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood, Inglorious Basterds), with Uma Thurman (Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction) and Samuel L Jackson (too many to list) also mentioned.

Production Weekly is an industry-standard source for projects entering production – but this “greatest hits” list of names could sound a little too good to be true. As recently as January, Tarantino told an audience at the Sundance Film Festival that he was working on a stage play which “if it’s a smash hit? It might be [his] last movie”. In the same interview, he lambasted the current state of the movie industry – describing studios’ current model of theatrical releases as “a show pony exercise” ahead of their arrival on streaming. “I didn’t get into all this for diminishing returns”, he also said.

The news also comes a year after the film once described as the director’s final film project, The Movie Critic, was announced and subsequently scrapped. The date on the Production Weekly listing – 18th April 2024 – is coincidentally one day after The Hollywood Reporter announced that The Movie Critic wasn’t, in fact, going ahead.

Take this all, then, with a bucketload of salt. More on this story if and when we get it.
