Elizabeth Olsen will co-star with Kristin Stewart and Oscar Isaac in Flesh Of The Gods, the new film from Mandy director Panos Cosmatos.

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe already know that Elizabeth Olsen can chart darker territory, with her Scarlet Witch character being the recipient of one of the gnarlier character trajectories in the film and TV franchise. The actor recently admitted that MCU movies aren’t the ‘kind of art’ that she consumes, though, even if she’s done a very fine job starring in them.

With the news (thanks Deadline) that Olsen is joining Panos Cosmatos’ upcoming vampire thriller, Flesh Of The Gods as the lead vampire, we’re guessing that she’s about to plum even darker depths. After all, Cosmatos is the director of Mandy, the unhinged Nicolas Cage revenge thriller that treated us to one of Cage’s wildest performances – and that’s saying something.

While there’s no indication that Flesh Of The Gods will seek to capture the same manic energy of Mandy, the project has (rather excitingly) been dubbed as “wildly commercial” and “wildly artful” and we’re already hoping that Olsen’s performance puts her right up there in the top ranks of movie vampire cult leaders. Working with Cosmatos, she’ll certainly have the chance to explore new directions.

The project was announced a year ago – with Oscar Isaac and Kristen Stewart attached to co-star – but hasn’t moved significantly forward in that time. It looks like Flesh Of The Gods will be going to Cannes looking for a buyer, so when it does get snapped up, we’ll certainly let you know.

According to an earlier plot description, the film will be ‘set in Los Angeles during the 1980s, and the story follows a married couple, Raoul (Isaac) and Alex (Stewart), who descend each evening from their luxury skyscraper condo and head into an electric nighttime realm of LA. When they cross paths with a mysterious and enigmatic woman (Olsen) and her hard-partying cabal, Raoul and Alex are seduced into a glamorous, surrealistic world of hedonism, thrills, and violence.’

Seven writer Andrew Kevin Walker has written the script – he knows a thing or two about penning a dark and savage tale – and Adam McKay is producing. When we hear more, we’ll let you know.
