Original star Zach Braff joins the cast of Scrubs reboot, we hear. More on the show’s plans below.
We reported last December that Scrubs, one of the funniest medical shows of the noughties, is due a reboot. Original creator Bill Lawrence, who went on to also create the critically acclaimed AppleTV+ series Shrinking and Ted Lasso, is on board to bring the sit-com back on our screens.
The project seems to be steadily moving on and it’s now being reported that Zach Braff is returning to Sacred Heart Hospital as Doctor John Michael Dorian, or JD.
Deadline reports that Braff’s casting didn’t happen easily as the negotiations went on for months. Braff reportedly wanted to film the series in Los Angeles rather than Vancouver and there seems to have been issues regarding pay as well. Apparently, the entire project nearly fell apart at one point, but things seem to have gotten back on track.
With Braff now on board, it’s reasonable to expect that ABC and 20th Television will next begin negotiations with the rest of the original Scrubs cast, Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes, Donal Faison and John C. McGinley.
Lawrence told Deadline that the show would visit the characters 15 years after the finale of the original series. The new Scrubs would fall somewhere between a revival and a reboot, introducing new characters to join our old favourites.
There’s no word on when the Scrubs reboot/revival might actually begin filming or appear on our screens, but it seems there’s still some ways to go for the shows.
