Tommy Wirkola’s Christmas-themed sequel has set its release date. More on Violent Night 2 below.
2022’s Violent Night was a delightful surprise. Who knew watching David Harbour wreak havoc in a Santa costume would be so much fun?
A sequel to the film was announced in 2023 and a 2025 shoot was planned. Now, Universal Pictures has given Violent Night 2 a release date, but it’s still a while away. The sequel will hit US cinemas on 4th December 2026 as confirmed here by Deadline. No UK date has been confirmed but it shouldn’t be too far apart from the US one.
The original saw Harbour’s alcoholic Santa Claus fight mercenaries as they take a family hostage. The film’s thoroughly ridiculous premise works mostly because Harbour commits to it with ferocity and director Tommy Wirkola manages to mix brutal violence with a healthy dose of silliness.
Harbour is set to return as Santa Claus and Wirkola is once again in the director’s chair. Pat Casey and Josh Miller are also back to write the script for Violent Night 2, but very little else is known about the film. We can only expect more mayhem and Christmas themed deaths.
Universal Pictures is currently busy advertising DreamWorks’ first live-action remake, How To Train Your Dragon. The film has received relatively positive reviews – although we were a little more reserved about it – and is looking at a very healthy opening weekend in the US.
