After We Collided has become, on the quiet, a box office hit

Over a month into its UK release, how After We Collided has left films such as The New Mutants far behind at the box office.

Here’s a good news story for British cinema at the moment. Whilst much of the focus has been on big blockbusters and whether they will or will not release, an apparently more modest film has been bringing in far better than expected box office.

After We Collided, from Cruel Intentions director Roger Kumble, is a young adult romantic drama starring Josephine Langford and Hero Fiennes Tiffin. It landed in UK cinemas back at the start of September, and now the movie – released by indie Shear Entertainment in the UK – has climbed its way to around £3m at the box office over here.

Reviews were hardly stellar for the film, but it matters not: the movie has found its audience, and that audience is heading to the cinema to go and see it. It’s comfortably outgrossed, for instance, The New Mutants.

The movie is a sequel to 2019’s After, and two more sequels to the film have been greenlit and are on the way. In the meantime, After We Collided continues to play in UK cinemas and continues to be doing really rather well. And that’s been a far more pleasant story to write than most surrounding cinema for the last few weeks.

Thanks to Helen Simmons for the heads up on this, and for drawing our attention to a quiet and very welcome success story.
