Guillermo del Toro, the visionary director behind Nightmare Alley, is set to receive the VES award for Creative Excellence.
The Visual Effects Society (VES) will honour director Guillermo del Toro with the award for Creative Excellence, according to
The Hollywood Reporter. He will accept the award at the upcoming VES Awards ceremony on 8th March, which will mark the societyās 25th year. The award is given to recognise outstanding contributions to the visual effects industry, and Del Toro certainly makes good use of visual and practical effects.
“Guillermo is a fiercely inventive storyteller, who has pushed the boundaries of filmmaking,” said VES board chair Lisa Cooke.
“An exemplary talent, he has consistently elevated not just the technical aspect of visual effects, but also the emotional. Guillermo is an amazing creative force and a defining voice in our global community, and his body of work is a rich source of inspiration for future generations of artists and innovators.”
Del Toro himself trained in makeup effects and spent ten years as a special effects makeup designer before going into directing.
del Toro has directed many beloved films in both the English and Spanish languages, including
Nightmare Alley, Crimson Peak, and
Panās Labyrinth. His fantasy-romance
The Shape Of Water won the Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Director, as well as awards for its production design and score.
Nightmare Alley has been nominated for four Oscars.
His upcoming works include a stop-motion animated adaptation of
Pinnochio thatās set to be released through Netflix. It will feature the voice talents of frequent collaborator Ron Perlman, as well as Gregory Mann, Ewan McGregor, and Cate Blanchett. He is also working on Netflix series
Guillermo del Toroās Cabinet Of Curiosities.
Pinocchio will be released on Netflix in December 2022, though an exact date is not yet available.
