Brooklyn Nine Nine star Stephanie Beatriz is starring with The Vampire Diaries’ Paul Wesley in horror-thriller History Of Evil.

Stephanie Beatriz and Paul Wesley are set to star in horror-thriller History Of Evil, Deadline reports. The film is will be released on horror streaming platform Shudder in the UK and Ireland, US, Australia, and New Zealand.

The plot revolves around a family on the run from a corrupt state who take refuge in a safe house with an evil past. It’s their last stop on the way to an underground railroad. History Of Evil is written and directed by Iranian-American filmmaker Bo Mirhosseni, and will be his first feature film. Producing are XYZ Films (which specialises in genre filmmaking), alongside Two & Two Pictures and actor Jake Siegel. Beatriz and Wesley are executive producers as well as main cast.

XYZ Films and Two & Two Pictures have recently made a deal to produce films from first or second-time genre directors from under-represented demographics, and History Of Evil will be the first project made as part of this pact. Going forward, the companies aim to make two to three of these films per year. The idea was formed as a result of the companies collaborating on director Babak Anvari’s psychological horror Under The Shadow, which went on to win the BAFTA for Outstanding Debut.

Beatriz recently led the voice cast of Disney’s Encanto, and also had roles in the musical In The Heights and comedy series Brooklyn Nine Nine. Paul Wesley has starred in a variety of shows, including The Vampire Diaries and Tell Me A Story. He also directs and produces via his company Citizen Media.

It’s exciting to hear that more diverse filmmakers are making the jump to genre film, and we’re looking forward to seeing what director Mirhosseni does with History Of Evil. More news on the horror film as we hear it.
