Paddington and Paddington 2 director Paul King tells the origins story of Roald Dahl character Willy Wonka in Wonka – here’s the trailer.

In Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, the eccentric Willy Wonka is famous for his wondrous factory producing all manner of confectionary. Paul King’s new film, titled Wonka, is a look at the character’s early years and how his love of chocolate came to be. Now, we finally have a first (and rather magical) trailer for the film.

Timothée Chalamet plays the young Willy Wonka. As with King’s beloved Paddington films, he’s joined by a huge ensemble cast. Also in the movie are Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Colman, Sally Hawkins and Matt Lucas, among others. In addition to directing, King has also co-written the screenplay with Simon Farnaby, who’s bound to show up in the film in some capacity.

I won’t spoil the trailer for you, but Hugh Grant pops up in a rather unusual role that we can’t wait to see him in.

The film is released on 15th December this year, and seems like the perfect family outing to add some magic to the holidays.
