The Director’s Edition of 1979’s original Star Trek film is getting a 4K disc release, and is heading back to cinemas as well.
In the autumn of 2021, Paramount released the first four
Star Trek films on the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format. But even at the time it did so, there were known plans for a full remaster of
Star Trek: The Motion Picture – Director’s Edition, the superior version of the original
Trek film.
Well, it’s taken its time, but now it’s arriving, with Paramount announcing both a theatrical re-release for the 4K remastered version of the film, but also a deluxe 4K disc release alongside the standard one.
We’ll do the deluxe first. It’s a five disc set here with both cuts of the film, and a third longer edition too if we’re reading this right. Then there’s previously-published extra features provided on a Blu-ray disc. The pack comes with deluxe packaging, with stickers, a booklet of stills and promotional material too.
It’s available on September 5
th 2022, and the current asking price is £60. You can
find more information on it, and order a copy, here.
If the budget is tighter, or you don’t want all the extra bits and bobs, a standard release of
The Director’s Edition is also available. This one’s got two discs in it, and you
can find more on that here.
Both land at the start of September, both are up for order now.
