Black and white Cornish film Bait moves passed £400,000 at the UK box office – and it’s still playing two months after its initial release.
Word of mouth continues to power the British film Bait at the box office. The movie, from director Mark Jenkin, opened to rave reviews at the very end of the summer, and it’s still playing in sites around the UK.
What’s more, Stuart Brown – the head of programme and acquistions for the BFI – has broken the news on his Twitter feed that the movie had now moved passed the £400,000 mark at the UK box office. It’s a hugely impressive result for a black and white British movie, that’s relied firmly on word of mouth to keep going.
Here’s Brown’s Tweet…
Our @BFI release of @Mark_Jenkin @baitfilmuk tipped past £400K at the UK box office yesterday. What a result. I would like to pay tribute to my brilliant, passionate and committed colleagues @JuliePearce and Laura Dos Santos. Also @timplatt78 and BFI marketing team. 👍👏👌🔥🔥

What’s more, the box office story for the film is still far from told. Bait doesn’t land on disc until early next year, and it continues to play at independent cinemas around Britain. It’s well, well worth seeking out too. Congratulations to all concerned.
