Amazon Prime is reportedly in discussions to introduce an advert-supported tier to its video service.
Streaming services, it seems, are in a never ending battle to outdo one another. As Disney+ prepares to remove even more content, and Netflix clamps down on password sharing, Amazon Prime has now been working on a few changes.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Amazon have begun preliminary discussions about introducing an advert-supported tier, at a lower cost for subscribers. Netflix introduced a similar tier last year, with Disney+ also launching an ad-supported tier that is expected to come to the UK by the end of the year. The report also stated that Amazon is in talks with Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount to start offering the ad-supported versions of Max and Paramount Plus within its Prime Video Channels
The focus seems to be on the US at the moment, but no doubt if these plans come to fruition then it will reach the UK soon enough, we’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
