The sequel to the iconic 1988 film has unveiled its finished title ā and weāve just lost a bet in the office. More on Beetlejuice 2 below:
Here at Film Stories, we rather like the first Beetlejuice. It stands to reason, then, that weāre rather invested in the sequel being a bit good. Until this morning, we were very excited for the film called Beetlejuice 2.
How foolish we were. Naive, really. Thereās no way Beetlejuice 2 will be anything like a return to form for director Tim Burton. Michael Keatonās iconic performance just wonāt hit the same in Beetlejuice 2. It would be the height of avarice to think Beetlejuice 2 could possibly be one of our most anticipated films of 2024.
Thatās because the sequel wonāt be called Beetlejuice 2. As of this afternoon, it seems itāll be called Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
Look, hereās a poster to prove it.
Itās a good title, actually. It feels rare in the era of SEO-friendly film titles for a big movie sequel to go for anything other than the rather uninspiring Eighties-Movie-Title 2. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice seems likely to confuse search engines all over the place while also playing in nicely to the ubiquitous mythology of the original, and we like that.
Still, we were convinced it was going to be Bee2lejuice. Thatās £10 sacrificed to the office sweepstake. I personally had good odds on 2 Beetle 2 Juice, but that always felt like a long shot.
Maybe this is why we donāt run a Hollywood studio.
But regardless of what itās called, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is still creeping into cinemas on 6th September 2024. Weāll stay in this massive queue till then.
