Uncharted movie to finally start filming this spring

Uncharted is still on Sony’s schedule, but not now until 2021.

It’s not the biggest surprise in the world, but Sony has confirmed that there will indeed be a further delay to its upcoming movie take on the Uncharted videogame. The news comes in the aftermath of Travis Knight’s (Bumblebee) decision to pass on directing the film.

Knight became at least the sixth person to do so, and the particular problem here is that Disney had been planned to have the film in cinemas in December 2020. Filming was to begin in the next month or so.

Now, with a new director coming in – and as had been previously reported, Venom helmer Ruben Flesicher the new man in charge – the project needs a little more wiggle room. As such, it’s been put back to March 5th 2021.

This has had a further knock-on too. That was the date that Sony had earmarked for its Masters Of The Universe film. But it’s now removed that film altogether from its calendar, amidst rumours that it’s considering offloading the movie to Netflix.

Uncharted will star Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, and we now hear that filming will finally begin in March. The production will take in both Germany and Spain, with more locations set to be revealed.

It’s been a long, long journey to get this far. But finally, it looks as if Uncharted the movie is happening…
