It’s Halloween, and quite rightly everyone is showcasing their best scary, terrifying, spooky and brilliant episodes at this time of year to give listeners pumpkin to talk about. It’s time to creep it real though, because this week’s podcast recommendation definitely puts a spell on its listeners. That podcast is Behind The Screams.
Behind The Screams debuted in November last year and its first episode covered the classic Halloween. It’s hosted by Ian, who started watching horror aged six when he first saw Scream and always felt an affinity to the genre growing up.
With some Twitch experience, he wanted an outlet by which to talk about his enduring love of the horror genre and the key themes contained within. Starting out as a solo podcast, Ian introduced a rotating roster of guests, including occasional co-host Dave and regular contributors Lucy, Lindsay and Nico, all of whom add their own passion, flair and knowledge on both classic and modern horror. Ian has also welcomed other horror podcast hosts as guests, and plans to do it more often going forward.
Listener feedback and interaction is so important to this podcast, and Behind The Screams regularly invites listeners to contribute to discussion points on social media. This podcast has become such a beacon of horror excellence that this year they are running their inaugural horror awards, along with a Horror Hall of Fame where only the crème de la crème of horror movies, directors, writers and actors will be nominated and eventually inducted into it at the end of the year.
Behind The Screams is unique for many reasons, but namely the schedule. Ian regularly puts out two to three episodes a week, including bonus episodes. It’s an astonishing achievement that just speaks to the love and dedication behind the scenes of Behind The Screams. With over 80 episodes currently available, and more coming every week, you’re guaranteed to find something in this terrific horror movie podcast you can sink your teeth into.
