Raptors are once again all up in the kitchen, as Saber Interactive announces videogame spin-off Jurassic Park: Survival. Here’s the first trailer:
As more and more games based on film franchises emerge as live service games – looking at you, Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League – it’s refreshing to see developers also making single-player action experiences.
Which brings us to Jurassic Park: Survival, one of far too many games announced at The Game Awards 2023. Not only does it take place on Isla Nublar, the island made famous in the film series established by Steven Spielberg in 1993, but it also takes place within hours of the first movie’s events.
Its protagonist, who you’ll meet in the announcement trailer below, is one Dr Maya Joshi, one of several scientists on the payroll of the quietly deranged John Hammond. The island’s now seemingly devoid of Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, Sam Neill or those two pesky kids, but it’s still awash with dinosaurs. And yes, there are still raptors all up in the kitchen.
Jurassic Park: Survival is in development at Saber Interactive, the studio behind the likes of Evil Dead: The Game (RIP), Snowrunner, and the upcoming John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando. It looks as though the team has put a real shift in when it comes to re-creating the locations, lighting and prehistoric critters of the movies – the game’s a first-person action-adventure, which means you’ll get to experience what it’s like to run in terror from dinosaurs in one of the most ill-advised theme parks this side of Westworld.
The trailer’s also filled with enough member berries to fill up an entire veggiesaurus – oh look, there’s an upside-down jeep. Is that Alan Grant’s hat? I know that music! And so on. It all looks jolly good fun, though.
Here’s Saber’s official blurb, in case you wanted to read it:
Return to Isla Nublar the day after the events of the beloved 1993 Jurassic Park film in an original adventure 65 million years in the making. Survive thrilling first-person action as InGen scientist Dr. Maya Joshi, who was unable to evacuate Isla Nublar, in this single-player action-adventure game and discover a never-before-told story. Through thrilling encounters, experience the wonder and danger of dinosaurs, each with their own distinct and adaptive behaviors brought to life by John Hammond’s vision.
Jurassic Park: Survival is in development for PC, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. When it gets a release date, we’ll let you know.
