Lupita Nyong’o stars in the first trailer for the long-awaited prequel to John Krasinki’s 2018 horror film. Watch the brand new A Quiet Place: Day One trailer here.

In 2018, it was almost criminal to eat popcorn at the cinema, at least if you were watching John Krasinski’s directorial debut, A Quiet Place. The film paid a lot of attention to sound design and silences so munching away at your popped corn during tense moments, of which there were aplenty, was frowned upon.

Our popcorn eating was interrupted again in 2020 when a sequel, again directed by Krasinki, was released. And now, four years later, we must face the eternal question again: to munch or not to munch during A Quiet Place film? We’ll leave you to make that decision for yourselves.

Take a look at the new A Quiet Place: Day One trailer.

This time, we’re getting a prequel. In the first two films, the aliens had already invaded the Earth and forced small groups of survivors to stay completely silent so as to not alert them.

Lupita Nyong’o will play a character called Sam who is seen walking around a city with a cat in her arms as all hell breaks loose. We caught a glimpse of one of those aliens, too! The trailer, which shows pleasingly little, has a bit of Cloverfield vibe going for it and we’re not mad about that.

Djimon Hounsou will reprise his role from Part II, for which he was only credited as Man On The Island. Joining Nyong’o’s Sam in navigating the destruction is Joseph Quinn’s Eric. Quinn is best known for playing Eddie in Stranger Things and will also appear in Luna Carmoon’s Hoard and Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2 later this year.

The official synopsis for the film is short and sweet: Experience the day the world went quiet.

It’s more of a tagline really, but we’ll take what we can get.

A Quiet Place: Day One is written and directed by Michael Sarnoski, who directed the heck out of the Nicolas Cage starring film Pig. John Krasinski also gets a story credit and produces alongside Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller.

A Quiet Place Part III is also currently in development. It was originally slated for 2023, but is now expected in 2025.

So all in all, we’re in good hands here! A Quiet Place Day One is hitting UK cinemas 28th June.
