The Shamrock Spitfire brings the incredible true story of Irish fighter pilot Brendan “Paddy” Finucane to life. More on the project here.

The Shamrock Spitfire is directed by Ian and Dominic Higgins, brothers who previously collaborated on films such as The 13th Day and 7 Days.

The Higgins brothers are directing, writing, producing, editing and in charge of cinematography for The Shamrock Spitfire. Now that’s what we call artistic control!

Take a look at the trailer for The Shamrock Spitfire.

The film stars Shane O’Regan as Finucane and he’s joined by Chris Kaye, Bethany Billy, Eoin Lynch, Emily Outred and Carl Wharton.

Here’s a full synopsis for the film, taken from Pixel Revolution Films’ website:

The future of Europe hangs by a thread as fierce battles rage in the skies over southern England. Irishman Brendan Finucane, with his dreams of being a flyer, is one of the first to enlist into the Royal Air Force.

Having his baptism of fire in the Battle of Britain, Brendan proves himself to be a natural born fighter pilot. His exploits in the air rapidly gain him fame and promotion through the ranks.

It is not long before he is given command of 452 Australian Squadron. Under Brendan’s leadership they will become the stuff of legend.

Authenticity seems to be the key here. Speaking to The Irish Post, Dominic said: “We want this story to feel authentic in every way, even going as far as having our Dublin characters speak with a Dublin accent that really no longer exists”.

“We are also working closely with Hornchurch Aerodrome Museum, the former airbase where Brendan served as wing commander —they have been unbelievably supportive of the project,” Ian added.

The Shamrock Spitfire is out later this year. According to IMDb, the film will be out on DVD in the UK from 11th March, but we’ll keep you updated on a potential theatrical release.
