A 26cm Dark Man statue and a creepy doorhanger are among the extras in the Alone in the Dark Collector’s Edition.
Ahead of horror reboot Alone in the Dark’s release in October, THQ Nordic has revealed the game’s collector’s edition.
In the box you’ll find a 26cm-tall statue of the game’s antagonist, The Dark Man, a smaller (1ocm) miniature of another monster, the slippery-looking Ostadte, and an even creepier dead-eyed doll doorhanger.
There’s also a steelbook, some stickers, a copy of the game and a Steelbook to put it in, and a DLC package containing costumes, a director’s commentary mode, and a ‘Vintage Horror Filter Pack’.
There’s also a trailer that provides loving close-ups of all these items.
Developed by Sweden’s Pieces Interactive, Alone in the Dark is the latest in a series that has been around since 1992, and was something of a pioneer in terms of 3D survival horror. The most recent sequel, 2015’s Alone in the Dark: Illumination, was a critical disappointment, and the rights to the franchise moved from Atari to THQ Nordic not long after.
The latest game to bear the Alone in the Dark name appears to have had a decent budget invested in it, given its cast. As announced in May, the game stars Jodie Comer, best known for her role in the hit TV series Killing Eve, and David Harbour of Stranger Things fame – they play the two leads, Emily Hartwood and Edward Carnby, and players will be able to choose which of them they’d like to habit at the start of the adventure.
Set in the 1920s, Carnby and Hartwood’s story is billed as “psychological horror meets southern gothic” according to THQ Nordic, and will see players “fight monsters, fight puzzles, and uncover the uneasy truth of Derceto Manor.”
Here’s a synopsis:
Deep in the 1920’s south, Emily Hartwood’s uncle has gone missing. Together with private investigator Edward Carnby, she embarks on a journey to Derceto Manor, a home for the mentally ill where something is lurking. You’ll encounter strange residents, nightmarish realms, dangerous monsters, and ultimately uncover the plot of rising evil. At the intersection of reality, mystery, and insanity, an adventure awaits that will change your core beliefs. Who can you trust, what will you believe, and what will you do next?
More details are due to emerge during the THQ Nordic Digital Showcase on 11 August at 8pm BST/12pm PDT/3pm EDT.
Alone in the Dark is due for release on 25 October 2023 for PC, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. The collector’s edition is restricted to 5,000 copies.
