Scream’s Mikey Madison stars in Sean Baker’s Palme d’Or winner and we’ve got our first look at the film. Watch the first Anora trailer here.
Sean Baker’s Anora was crowned the Palme d’Or winner in May, the highest honour of the Cannes Film Festival. Previous winners include Anatomy Of A Fall, The Triangle Of Sadness and Parasite, so it’s safe to say the Cannes people know what they’re talking about.
Anora follows Mikey Madison’s stripper who falls in love with the son of a Russian oligarch. We’re sure this is going to be a very straightforward, wholesome romance.

We’ve embedded the greenband trailer above in case you’re watching it from your work desk and would like to avoid embarrassment, but Neon have also released a raunchier redband trailer. You can find that here.
Sex work has always been of interest for Baker. His last film, Red Rocket, followed a middle-aged retired porn star as he attempted to regain his former glory and Tangerine, perhaps Baker’s boldest work, filmed on iPhones, followed two trans sex workers as they roamed the streets of Hollywood.
Anora is currently scheduled for release in the US on 18th October while a UK release is following behind on 1st November. Universal Pictures is handling UK distribution. Like most Palme D’Or winners, we can expect Anora to play a big part in next year’s awards race.
Madison is best known for FX’s Better Things, in which she plays a moody teenager, but film fans will also recognise her from 2022’s Scream, where she played Amber. In Anora, she’s surrounded by a mainly Russian supporting cast with Mark Eidelstein playing her new husband.
Anora is the latest film to come from Neon, a distribution company who is currently enjoying great success with Longlegs. Longlegs grossed an impressive $22.6m at the US box office on its opening weekend, much higher than it was projected for. We suspect that the brilliant marketing campaign had something to do with it.
