Paul Feigās Another Simple Favor has premiered to good reviews ā but the filmmaker admits itās been a bumpy road to get this far.
Paul Feig’s new film, Another Simple Favor, debuted at the SXSW Festival in the US over the weekend. It’s accurately being reported as the first time he’s made a sequel to one of his films, although that does overlook the fact that The Heat 2 was something he was pursuing at one stage (Sandra Bullock’s reluctance to return ended the chances of it happening).
Still, he’s given a candid-sounding conversation about the difficult development of Another Simple Favor, which reunites Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick in the lead roles.
Feig produced the film as well as directing, with Laura Fischer also a producer on the film. Chatting at the festival, via The Hollywood Reporter, Feig revealed that we may at one stage have had the film a little earlier.
“We threw out a whole script that was greenlit”, he revealed, “I was reading the response from people who were so excited for a sequel, and I thought this is not what they want. So, we got together with the writers and threw out that 70 percent of what we had and then made it into what it is.”
Paul Feig confirmed that he’s happy with how the film has turned out, and the early reviews reflect his confidence too. He’s already deep into his next project, the Blumhouse-backed The Housemaid.
The final screenplay to Another Simple Favor meanwhile is credited to Jessica Scharzer and Laeta Kalogridis. Scharzer also penned the first film, based on a story by Darcey Bell.
