Ari Aster has teased his next film project with Joaquin Phoenix, after working together on the upcoming Beau Is Afraid.
Midsommar and Hereditary are some of the most acclaimed horror films of the last few years, with writer and director Ari Aster quickly establishing himself as a horror auteur.
His third feature, Beau Is Afraid, stars Joaquin Phoenix. The film is described as a “decades-spanning surrealist horror film set in an alternate present. Beau, an extremely anxious but pleasant-looking man who has a fraught relationship with his overbearing mother and never knew his father. When his mother dies, he makes a journey home that involves some wild supernatural threats”.
Chatting to The New York Times, Aster confirmed that he plans to reunite with Phoenix for his next film, which will “almost certainly be a western”. Speaking about working with Phoenix, Aster said that “It was the best experience of my life. But it also taught me how I want to work in the future — the seriousness with which I expect an actor to approach any given part”.
Beau Is Afraid, will be released in the UK on the 19th May.
