Currently three for three where his movie directorial career is concerned, writer, producer and director Armando Ianucci is heading back to a film set for his fourth stint behind the camera.
He’s written and will be directing a thus-far mysterious conspiracy thriller, that doesn’t yet seem to have a title. But it does have a hell of a cast. Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander is set to star alongside James McAvoy and Taron Egerton are set to headline the project.
The film is heading off to the American Film Market over the next few days in search of people to pick up its distribution around the world, and thus also put some money in the pot for it.
Iannucci to date has directed In The Loop (which in turn spun out of the TV sensation The Thick Of It), the biting The Death Of Stalin, and the strong-received slightly left turn with The Personal History Of David Copperfield.
There’s no word yet on a release date for whatever this new film is called, and presumably filming on it can’t be too far away. Unless it revolves around Tom Cruise-style hi-jinks or intense visual effects, there’s a sporting chance it could be before our eyes this time next year, but I can’t pretend to have the slightest bit of insight there.
What is known is that Kevin Loader will be producing the new film, which is currently being represented by FilmNation (a company that’s worked with Armando Iannucci before.) And that the project exists, and will definitely be Iannucci’s next project as a movie director.
Still a fair few gaps to fill in then, but promising and intriguing nonetheless. What an Armando Iannucci conspiracy thriller looks like isn’t a question I’d asked a few weeks ago, and now I’m rather keen to find out the answer. More as we hear it.
